You will get a forecast but not the radio 4 shipping forecast as we know it. it is a mechnically spoken forecast that runs for 1hour everyhour covering the wole of the Afristar satalite area, it starts off on the hour with the UK forecast and insure forecast then continues through the hour with the Med and Africa etc. Its a very simple forecast and is easy to follow. but it does cost you £58 to purchase the code to be able to receive it. there are other programs that are free, CNN news and world news. I am not sure why I went out and bought one but I was under the impression that I would be able to receive all the BBC radio programs on it but that is not the case.
Mike
Where you are actually dictates whether you will get anything at all. Coverage is not yet total.

Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is still in it's infancy and coverage is not available in all areas. I would think that even when it is fully up and running that coverage and range at sea, even in coastal waters will be similar to digital phones, at least for terrestial broadcasts. I would stick to LW for your forecast.
The forecast you refer to is by the Worldspace radio system. I bought one also, and found that I get BBC Africa! I have no knowlege of the weather forecasts. However there is a new digital system called DRM that may change things completely: www.drm.org.
I think there is some confusion creeping in here; the original question is concerning Digital radio broadcasts (DAB) and makes no reference to the Satellite radio system (Worldspace). The replies seem to be split between those giving answers relating to one technology and those giving answers to the other.
I do not have a DAB radio and there for would go with the advice from those who have.
I do have a Satellite radio (Worldspace) which incidentally also received its signal in digital form (probably the source of the confusion) and I don’t find it is much cop for detailed weather information; that is unless, as an earlier reply pointed out, one subscribes to the service.
Hi Sorry I think I caused the mixup here, I automatically assumed the question refered to Satalite when in fact it didnt, my fault, unfortunatly we do not receive a DAB signal up here in Cumbria so I never gave it a thought. What distance range can a DAB signal be received, we strugle to get Long wave where I live.
