If the subscription access is via Zinio, then they have an app for Android, and reader for the PC. Installation on the Kindle fire was not entirely straightforward, as it wasn't initially listed in the various app stores. This may have changed in the last few months.

I've greatly enjoyed being able to read our electronic PBO subscription from our Ipad, android phone and laptop. Of these, the tablet provides the most pleasant experience.

The one big downside, though, is the limited support for printing out the articles for off-line reading.

I subscribe to the paper version. I have an Android tablet and would really like to get the digital version free. This seems possible, but only for iPad users. Is this correct? If so, when do you plan to provide Android users with the same offer? Also, is there a way I can access the iPad version on my Android tablet?

Are there any circumstances under which there is electronic access to the ybw archive - past articles in any or all of their sailing publications?
 
So I take it that the print version is available before the iPad version?

The summer 2013 print version was available on the 18th June, however I can't seem to find it in the PBO iPad app. Typically I read the paper version that pops through my door, but (as my arms won't stretch that far) I was keen to download the latest copy. Any news on when it's available online?

Because that is the route they chose to go down.

You have downloaded a series of pdfs not a digital magazine.

Very different things I am afraid.

We do have offers of free 3 / 6 month digital subscriptions at various events throughout the year.

If you make it to Southampton I would be more than happy to sit down with you and explain what's what in terms of our digital strategy and how it works.

Yes, PDFs would suit me better. I've just cancelled my YM subscription (been buying it for 30+ years and probably had a subscription for over 20). I'm off sailing for around 7 months each year and only in the UK for 4-5 months so paper copies just sit at home until mid-winter.

I have no need of an iPhone or iPad etc. and would probably go for a subscription with paper and a downloadable PDF. Best of both worlds as I'd still read the paper copy in winter and browse electronic copy on the boat. Not going to happen of course so just decided to bite the bullet and stop stockpiling. I can still get the odd paper copy at home if I see something interesting.

PDFs are too easy to copy so I can see why YM don't go that route. I expect the current format could also be copied but would take a little effort so that means publishers don't have as many people sharing a copy with 100s of others.

To make emagazine, what you need is a pdf to digital magazine maker. It allows you to turn your PDF files into digital flip-book style magazines with flipping animation, music, video and other multi-media files which enrich and enhance your e-magazine. The Euro rate for subs has come down and you should see change in this, I dont have it to hand but if you visit the app store you should see.

:D I was trying to be tactful (& failing)

If you can see it or hear it on a PC then you can copy it. It's harder to protect in analogue domain (monitor, audio) but even digital rights protected stuff isn't safe. I assumed a magazine displayed on a screen would be a snap (just never had any need to try it).

But anyone can pass on a PDF without any effort, I was presuming that was why online mags. don't much like that format.

As you said PDF is too easy to copy, everyone can pass on it. That is not suitable for protecting copyright. Publishers and digital magazine maker should think about a safe method to publish e-magazine.
