I assume that something drove their choice. Perhaps the magazine wasn't core business and you had to pay already for something else or they could afford to have pirated copies floating around (don't expect the advertisers would mind too much but could be wrong). Could be more around in mainstream publication field than I thought, thanks Nigel.

As you said PDF is too easy to copy, everyone can pass on it. That is not suitable for protecting copyright. Publishers and digital magazine maker should think about a safe method to publish e-magazine. Here is a guide on articlesbase ....

The software you mention would help reduce copying vs. PDFs but of course it wouldn't prevent copying, just makes it slightly more difficult. If you can see it on screen or hear it from a speaker it's in memory and you can copy it (ignoring digital rights management issues if output device is analogue).

So, as I read it, being a bear of very small brain, as I need an electronic subscription of account of always being on the move the only option is i-pad or kindle and a windoze laptop is not enough?

laptop is fine if you go down the Zinio route.

Is the offer of getting the iPad version free when subscribing to the printed version, there is nothing on the subscription page that say about the offer.

Actually as it happens this is about to change and be free once more...prob from 1st Oct so watch this space.

The "free" ipad access stopped over a year ago and is now being introduced once more. I am waiting on the full details before I put anything up. ITs an apple thing vs an ipc thing and with everythign in life is not that simple! but it WILL be happening.

I didn't use it, as the files were way to big to keep on my iPad. However, it would be a handy way to keep selected pages.

Such a change might even encourage me to resume one or more subscriptions.

I fully agree. If I could download onto my PC it would be much more useful.

Erm we have been since 2006.....all on Zinio.

With regards to other tablets (Google Play etc) they have been on them for way over a year now perhaps even two.

No that was only introduced when we went into the (Apple) App store some 2.5 years ago (I think) Apple were the only platform to be able to offer this facility.

Apple will once more be the only platform where we will have this facility as they are the only platform who will allow us to do this.

If I understand the last few posts, to see a digital copy of an IPC magazine as well as the print version I'd have to pay twice.

Why not simply allow subscribers to download a pdf of the magazine?
