If, for the sake of argument, the red diesel concession was discontinued (I know- hush ma mouth), all our boats laid up in the winter with squillions of squids-worth of fuel on board could be vulnerable. Has anyone given thought to making it secure? Locking filler caps? Armour-plated fuel lines and filler pipes? Tungsten carbide(?) fuel tanks? My boat is steel and the tanks are in the keel but I would hate to visit her one day and find a tap fitted on the side of the keel. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

no different to the existing problem for petrol heads, but I havent heard any reports of petrol theft from boats (yet)

Swap the caps over so the fuel filler is labelled water and visa versa.Make sure you remember though!

Hey! stop giving the LFB ideas....! I have actually come across fuel theft - but only in those 25 or so litre outboard fuel tanks.

I suppose one of the problems is how to transport a worthwhile quantity of diesel away, together with the time it would take to drain it off in amounts worth pinching. They usually are looking for a quick hit - not something that will take half an hour to extract. Electronics and gear are much easier to sell on. Dont think I ever saw cut price diesel at a boat jumble.....

Our Romany friends in Croydon, frequently pump 500lts out of the trucks at work, whilst depositing a couple of hundred tons of rubbish on the surrounding streets. Should you however to register a vehicle in your name, you collect parking tickets, etc like they are going out of fashion, and get done for dropping a fag end. Equal application of the law ?
