My diesel tank filler cap is in an extremely awkward position (I have to fill jerry cans and siphon fuel in from them). I would like to move the cap to the outside of the cockpit coaming but the tank has only 7" clearance above it which means that ordinary filler hose will kink (if it bends at all). I've tried heating it up but it still kinks.

I would like to use this swept 90 degree connector to get around this without obstructing the flow. However, I'm not sure if the rubber of the connector is diesel proof as it does not give the specs.

Or I would like to do it with metal pipe but I can't find any reference to this anywhere either.

Suggestions and information gratefully received

These are suitable for diesel https://www.hoseworld.com/nitrile-l...-elbow-with-8-legs-x-38mm-i-d-ntfh-38-90.html

The supplier seems to be a company specialising in swimming pools and similar products. It is unlikely that the elbow you want is nitrile, more likely to be neoprene that has some resistance to attack by diesel but I suggest insufficient for a tank connector. Nitrile or silicone would be good.

It is my understanding that silicone hose is not suitable for diesel unless it is the type that has a diesel impermeable lining. Am i wrong?

Hi Matt, why not make up the bend using copper plumbing pipe and a 90degree (or45) soldered joint? In fact what you could do, if your filler is plated brass is file off the chrome plating and solder the pipe or the joint onto the end of the filler.
It would have to be removed from the boat for this. Depending on the diameter of the inside or outside of your filler I may have a bit of pipe you can have. From memory I think the outside diameter is 35mm.

An alternative suggestion. I fitted an electric pump and small filter inside the boat. I use that to transfer diesel from cans into the tank, or v.v. At the moment through the inspection hatch but one day I'll plumb it in properly to the fuel and return pipes with a CAV filter so it can be used both as a polisher and transfer pump.

Maybe you could put together something similar. Far easier sitting and watching the fuel transfer with a cup of tea in your hand than crouching on the side deck.
