Hi all, just back from a trip to peel got diesel oil on berthcushion. Any advice welcome on how to remove it from the foam.I did a search on the forum but found nothing.
REGARDS CID.
They might be able to give you advice, and in any case a 5litre can of their best stuff will enable you to clean bilges immaculately for a number of years.
If the diesel has soaked well into the foam it will be pretty well impossible to get it out. Cut losses and buy a new bit.
If its surface contamination I would try a detergent solution in a hand-sprayer. Apply and suck out the solution with a wet and dry vacuum.
If you soak the foam too much it will take forever to dry out. I know from experience.
Then use an enzyme spray to get rid of the stink... cat pee eliminator from a pet shop works well on diesel smells
If you really need to do it, wash in fairy liquid solution a few times.
Rinse several times.
dry by pressing water out i.e. stand on it in the bath or clean patio etc.
Dry a bit more using wet vac.
Dry further by pressing between old towels
Dry finally using fan heater and dehumidifier in confined space.
Or hang on line/get it out in the breeze somehow on a dry windy day.
At least you will have tried before rushing off to buy new foam!
Remove the cover first of course and wash/dry clean as normal.
