don't use neoprene gaskets, use close cell nitrile sheet.

CT1 is a pretty strong adhesive and resistant to hydrocarbons.

Polyurethane adhesive sealants, such as Sikaflex 296 and 3M 5200, are not recommended. Polysulfide ones seem OK, as does Hylomar.

I would check on the web, but I think Golden Hermatite is good IIRC.
I seem to remember using that with a paper gasket and having no problems.

or.. as per the above suggestion, and if you can find it - nitrile impregnated cork (in the form of a gasket).

For my fuel tank hatch, I made a gasket using nitrile bonded cork sheet material I bought from these people:-

Hylomar make a product called Hylotyte red.
It is semi hardening, resistant to fuels. I used it on a very large inspection cover 2 seasons ago, so far with good effect.

I contacted the company that make Hylomar, and bought the product they suggested for this purpose. Turned out to be silicone sealant.

Thanks everbody. A classic example of this place at its best- a simple question getting straightforward answers based on experience. How did we ever find out stuff before there were places like this?

I am new to the world of gaskets. I fear I may have to remove the inspection plate on my tank. As far as I can remember it uses the 'cork stuff' as a gasket.
Once removed, should I replace that irrespective of how it looks, and if so should I use sealent as well?
