I suspect the answer to this is in another thread, but I can't find:

what's the correct sealant to use for bedding down an inspection hatch in a diesel tank?

thank you in advance

Also available as a spray

Which, as you'll be flying back to Wildsong is probably not appropriate.

Otherwise, as per davidwf :)

PS Westleton Garage stock the tubes (non-marine price ;) )

don't use neoprene gaskets, use close cell nitrile sheet.

CT1 is a pretty strong adhesive and resistant to hydrocarbons.

Polyurethane adhesive sealants, such as Sikaflex 296 and 3M 5200, are not recommended. Polysulfide ones seem OK, as does Hylomar.

I would check on the web, but I think Golden Hermatite is good IIRC.
I seem to remember using that with a paper gasket and having no problems.

Thanks everbody. A classic example of this place at its best- a simple question getting straightforward answers based on experience. How did we ever find out stuff before there were places like this?

I am new to the world of gaskets. I fear I may have to remove the inspection plate on my tank. As far as I can remember it uses the 'cork stuff' as a gasket.
Once removed, should I replace that irrespective of how it looks, and if so should I use sealent as well?
