Diesel Prices

So can I. But my boat is ashore at the moment so not worried.
Prices have moved so fast it seems the marina have bought at a peak price and have been caught out?
Or are they selling the old cheaper rate diesel at the new high price, as like you lots of us have yet to start the season so cannot see demand high yet,

This is a myth. I used to purchase red diesel for a boat yard. It was always cheaper, per litre, to get 500 litres than 5000 litres. If you buy over 2500 litres, you have to pay a higher rate of VAT for a start. Then there is the extra logistics of ordering large quantities.
But surely the boat yard claim the VAT back & when they sell it they charge the VAT at the rate for fuel on the smaller quantity, so one would discount that one. As for logistics, I cannot accept that it can be cheaper to send 10 lorries instead of one. My father always used to tell me ---If you do not buy right, you cannot expect to sell right

But it wasn't just the VAT. The point is, there was no level where ordering more cost less per litre. The cheapest option was always the smaller quantities. I don't understand it either, but thats the way it was. This is based on my experience of ordering red diesel for a boat yard over a period of a few years. If you have more relevant experience that contradicts mine, please share it. Otherwise we have to put the 'small quantities costs more' argument to bed.

Our village has a consortium to buy fuel oil oil. We get it cheaper that way. I used to buy a few Thou gallons for my own company.
I have had experience of buying.
But as you say- best put to bed. (y)
