Diesel on the non-tidal Thames

We are coming up the non tidal Thames in a few weeks and will need to refuel before heading back to sea. Where is the best, and by that I mean cheapest ?, place to fuel? We’ll be going to oxford, so anywhere below there will be good. Cheers

Everywhere ie. MDL appears to be around £1.23 per litre.
Rumours that the narrowboat will do a much better deal ?

He was moored boatyard just below Staines as we came downriver on Thursday.

The floating diesel bowser can be found on zero seven 921 694 287 if that is beneath the OP's dignity then -
Better Boating at Reading, on the bend just above Tesco's has fuel a compedtitive prices.

At least NBs don't chuck out load of dark smoke.
 
If your heading back down the Tideway on your way back, I always use Shepperton marina as its the best last chance option and you have full tank as you start the tideway, price much the same as anywhere on the Thames with the execption of the Narrow Boat possibly.

Simply because having got onto the navigation on the cheap, abandoning 50 ft of pot blacked iron completely and hogging 70 ft of mooring for several days, while popping back to feed the pigeons/ferrets or whippets and to stock up on baked beans.
They never move...........except to spend two hours at the water point filling up what appears to 1000 gallon water tank in front of me.:)

Chris on narrow boat "Merchant" is the man. Thames Diesel. Based at Tims yard below Staines Railway bridge he also owns the big old tug "Ajax".

I went past Better Boating at Caversham and they are advertising red at 89p a litre. Depends what your relationship with the tax man is like I suppose. It is up to the customer not the vendor go decide the tax declaration.

Bourne end was also good 99p for gas oil into the heating tank.

Its going to be interesting to see how that works considering the fact a lot of boats generate power and are kept warm using rebated gas oil.

It seems a bit complicated to enforce a white diesel rule for propulsion engines. How long would your 1000 litre tank of red last for and how could you prove it.

And the margins are probably going to be quite small so boatyards might not bother. I could see boatyards still selling red into boat tanks and its up to the customer to worry about what they use it for.

Andy, perhaps it was 89p, but did think how cheap compared to the marina prices I pay on the East Coast, or the uxbridge Boat Centre when I take cans there.

Really good to see you over last couple of weeks.

RCC are charging around 90p per litre at the moment including a dose of whatever snake oil additive is cheapest.

Nice to see you too with your lovely everyman cruiser. I couldn't own a wooden boat myself but if I did... Sweet boat.
