By "the fuel barge" I assume you mean Chris on narrow boat MERCHANT based at Staines upon Thames. If not then were you perhaps referring to the much larger fuel barge further down the River based at Wapping?

We took 100 litres from the Abingdon boat services dock, part of Salters, so a reasonable throughput of fuel I guess, for £1.05 a litre yesterday. 70/30 split , didn't bother asking for a better deal. Nice clean kit and not a drop spilled. Hope this helps.

Tr Bridge does get choppy, due the barge traffic, kicking up the water

You're not wrong. we took on 250 litres there and it was like balancing on a roller coaster while refuelling.. my father was hooked around any rail he could find and at times was going up and down at lease 5 feet. Unfortunately the barge was fendered with road tyres which really blackened the side of the Sealine. luckily it all came off.
To get the fuel we just called the mobile number while in St Kats and said we'd be out on the next lock.
Its a shame that smaller boats can't go up the inside for a bit of protection.
