Hi all,

Now it has turned cold have moved to the inside jobs; new glow plugs yesterday.

Next there is diesel around the base of two injectors, the previous owner said it was the fuel return leaking and has wire ties to help seal the tubes. It is a small amount of diesel taking several hours to pool in the small recess. Having done a search seems small cracks in pipes can also be a problem.

So I thought I might chnage the spill pipes first (length of flexible tube), also wondered whether to try and get a better seal with a short piece of heat shrink?

But How would a knowledgable person check for leaks from another source, thought about clening and then wrapping in kitchen towel?

Engine mercedes om636.

Any thoughts ideas, suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

can you post a picture of the problem ?

Many years ago i had a bmw 325tds which had rubber pipes linking the leakoff points on each injector, and despite them looking in perfect condition, they leaked, but i put new fuel pipe on there (just cut up a length of rubber fuel injector pipe from halfords) and it stopped it instantly, and the car also started quicker in the mornings too, i guess air was leaking in with the engine off and partly draining the fuel line

Thanks for the replies Guys, I have attached a photo but not sure it helps much but you can just make out the siezing wire bindings and funny coloured pipes. Didn't play with the pipes tonight as it was calm so put the wind senor back on top of the mast. V pleased as it wouldn't show low wind speeds but when switched on showed 1.7 knts to 2.1knts. Also when changing the glow plugs last night found one part of the supply cable to the series glow plugs very perished with over half the strands broken. So started the engine tonight and previously it had been slow starting but positively started, again V pleased but short lived as the charge light came on and no lights on the switch panel.........As long as I solve it, rather now than on a bumpy night crossing the channel.....

PS do not be fooled by the colour it is a merc in volvo colour, it was rebuilt in 96 and guess it got a dose of Swedish then, wonder if that will make the parts more expensive?

They look like exactly the same injectors that my old 325tds had, i think it was thinwall 3.2mm id fuel pipe that i used to replace them all, not expensive and should only take you about half hour to do all in, there arent any real pressures involved in leakoff so no hose clips needed, just push a new section of pipe on and jobs done !
