Diesel in Malta

How much is it currently ?

Any recommendations for places to get it ? I expect to take on about 300l

Thanks ...

Just hang around at the quayside the diesel will find you, check the price by visiting a local garage. We last filled up in Msida by the Black Pearl - it costs what it costs like most things in Malta expensive.

When I was there a small road taker would sometimes appear on the quayside. It was like a road going potential bomb, festooned with dripping paraffin and other cans as well as a cargo of diesel. If you can find others requiring diesel he may do a 'bulk deal' delivery as he did then. Perhaps now they are part of Europe, regulations have scuppered him..but knowing the Maltese folk I doubt it...:D

if you remember where I told you to moor in sliema , there a garage just under the bridge you can take your dinghy to it , I always fill up cans from there .

Is there still a fuel boat that moors just off The Hotel Excelsior, on the way into Msida Marina? Dissappeared for winter, and not sure when it returned.

I'm going back to 2009, but that was the only place I could find other than filling cans.

1) Today's price at the road side petrol station close to the bridge to Manoel Island was €1.36 per litre of diesel.

2) The fuel barge is back on station.
But beware: last year their charged a service fee of €8.60 when you used them, be it for 100 litres or 1,000 litres.

3) I have been told the fuel deliveries by lorry to the marinas (typically for the big motor yachts) are the cheapest. If you can cotton on to one of these deliveries for your 300 litres it might be the cheapest and easiest way.

On 300l, the service charge is 3c per litre, approx.. If its the most convenient source, then €8.60 is not a big deal.

In 2 years, I never worked out how to cotton on to a lorry delivery.
