I am looking for a place to refuel this weekend on my way up river to Teddington. I see that Swan Island Harbour sells diesel but can anyone tell me if it is possible to get to the fuel pump at any state of the tide. Are there any other places for diesel between Teddington and Tower Bridge? (I beleive the fuel barge by tower bridge is closed on Sundays). I was hoping to use http://www.thamesdiesel.com who occasionally have their fuel barge at Teddington but they will not be there this weekend.

Sorry to say that Thames Ditton marina has deserted us. If you want diesel, it's a couple of locks up through Sunbury and a visit to Shepperton Marina. It's not all bad news, as you'll have the pleasure of a cruise to Hampton Court and if you have time, an excellent lunch at The Anglers after filling up.

I suggest giving Swan Island (Newman's) a ring on 020 8891 6635 just to check availability. Unless you draw a great deal I'd be very surprised if there's any tidal issue with access to the fuel berth.

p.s. and if you do draw a lot, you won't be wanting to come up the Kew-Richmond bit at low water anyway!

The free British Marine Federation app (River Thames Guide) includes the ability to overlay the interactive map of the river with fuel locations (as well as lots of other stuff).
Details and download links from the app support site

Jeff, many thanks. Just downloaded from the Android app store but when i opened the app all i get is a blank black screen, even after a device restart. What should i do?

Not sure why that would be (if you ache time please let em know the device details and where it was downloaded from).
Meanwhile, please delete the downloaded app and replace with the one from here (this is for generic Android devices not Amazon Fire)

Would appear over time less and less places go to trouble of stocking any fuel at all.
Only larger marinas with high turnover perhaps.
Simply not worth their while, specially with so many boaters using the marina trolleys purely to get half a dozen drums of mysterious red liquid from car boot to boat.

What's even worse in this neck of the woods once you come through Teddington Lock should you run low on fuel there aren't even any petrol stations anywhere near the river the one that used to be quite close in Twickenham is now closed for the foreseeable future even though mooring close to it would have been a problem the other two stations would require a taxi journey! to the best of my knowledge the nearest place to get fuel is somewhere in Brentford by the canal entrance so if you do come on to the tidal Thames make sure that your not running on vapour!!!

The nearest petrol station to the river down that end is just past Hampton Court railway station. Moor just before the lock. There are public moorings next to the bridge but they are almost always taken by the same pikeys.
The alternative is to go through Molesey lock and moor at Hurst Park. A short walk to Tesco and there's a Shell Station nearby.
At Teddington Lock, it's a walk up the lock road on the Ham side, turn right, follow the road for less than a mile and there's a Shell station at the crossroads. It's worth carrying a couple of 10litre cans and a trolley, as containers in petrol stations are a rip off and they're only the 5litre variety.

And if anyone does find themselves on fumes and down this end, please post. If I'm around I'd be happy to help.

Jeff. I am using a Galaxy A3 and downloaded your app from the android playstore. I clicked on your link to download as you suggested but i got a message saying "download in app". Which app? Sorry too confusing. I would rather install from the playstore.

Which one was that? The nearest is by the 316 of the road leading to it ?

The nearest Two petrol stations below Teddington Lock are stains Rd just beyond Twickenham Green and the Tesco service station in mogdon lane by the rugby ground both are approximately one mile from the river to far to walk carrying a can of fuel I would have thought that's even if you could find anywhere to moor in Twickenham without juggling with the Tides! What's more l can't think of anywhere further down the river in Richmond where there any Gaurages whatsoever nearest ones to my Knowledge are in Kew ! That said even if you could find somewhere to moor in Richmond you're a better man than I am Gungadin .

Okay I am with you now, Staines Road ( both) are a taxi ride if anyone will take you, Mogden lane even further.

The nearest physical station is probably in Twickenham on Richmond Road. You could moor outside the Barmy and walk to this one with a decent trolley. That's about the only one in walking distance.

The one on Richmond Road in Twickenham is closed for major refurbishmens that looks like it will take a few weeks at least (before it then turns into a block of flats like all the pubs around here do when they close for 'refurbishment').

Indeed but only a short while. It's my stop when i fill up my scooter on the way into work.

Came up to Teddington yesterday. No Diesel anywhere. The fuel barges at Tower Bridge and Westminster Bridge both closed Saturdays and Sundays so i have to head back Monday or take the trip to Shepperton marina. Road filling stations not an option as i need 100 litres.

Shepperton marina is open from 10 am until 2pm Sunday s best give them a ring first if you are coming up from Tower Bridge remember it's the Boat Race today with all the traffic on the river it will be a nightmare!

And the river is closed between Wandsworth and Kew from 1430 to 18.30. Nearly got caught out by this myself as I was bringing the boat round from the south coast this week end . High water being at 19.00 or there abouts would of been the time s I needed for Hammersmith. Now leaving tomorrow instead. so long as the un-exploded bomb dosnt close the river as well.
