Why these days ?
Its always been there ... just more use of diesel fuel has brought it to the fore .. engines / filters etc less tolerant of foreign matter in fuel etc

To put it bluntly - you cannot really overdose ...
Can you buy litres of the treatment ? No retail its usually in 500mL bottles ... you could put the whole lot in and engine will still run fine ...
May sound rude - but really I'm not intending to be ... read the label ...
My usage ? I tend to just pour a decent slug in ... never really measure it. My treatment is also in 500mL bottles for convenience and I reckon a bottle will last about 5 or 6 doses of my 70ltr tank ...
I give a good slug at beginning of season when boat sits before use ... gives enzymes time to do their stuff ... then a slug each time I do a reasonable sized fill-up ... if its only a small top-up of tank - then there's more than enough already in there.

Interesting. It's not something I experienced in my early days of sailing with diesel engines. I had diesel bug on the tank on my last boat and it has come in with the fuel in the current tank. The main reason I vacuum the tank every 6 months.
We do pick up fuel in some third world countries where I suspect storage regimes are not that strict so I guess it's only to be expected
