Didn't pay his boatyard fees. Bloody sad to see her scrapped.

I “inherited” a salvage claim by a well known German salvage company on a Portuguese troop ship, in the courts of Portugal.

A few years ago, we were hit by an uninsured passenger ferry whose owner just said "sue me". Despite the fact he was running on forged insurance certificate but had some family tie up with the then mayor, the police took no action. When I contacted my insurers, they agreed with local advice - it would take maybe 10 years to go through the Portuguese courts and thousands in lawyers fees. My insurers paid me to carry out repairs after I undercut the two local quotes, no loss of NCB as I was on home mooring.

Ah sorry, didn't realise he meant Portugal. There must be some equivalent though.
It's Portugal, - probably best to forget it if you're considering a court action for relatively small amounts, and be prepared to wait up to 10 yrs for bigger ones. Also high legal costs potentially.
I love the country but the legal system takes a lot of navigation to get through, especially for an estrangeiro.

One missing photo & 23 replies lol & still no one guessed the design :giggle: you all need to read yacht design for dummies.
Ok Graham going to try uploading again, if no joy I will send it to you with my birthday greetings . (do you really intend to live to be 124 ? lol yes I saw his postha ha.) Photo is of Kia such a bloody shame.

Sandyman is your photo at too high a resolution? If the file is too large, ybw reject it and shows as a line through the uploaded file. Use a photo editor to reduce the pixel sze on the longer side to 1000 and make sure the box for keeping the aspect ratio is clicked to keep the shape, then save with an altered file name. It should work then.

Thank You yes that seems to have done the trick. All different on here since I was a regular contributor in pre stroke days

Wow - that looks a long way from being the decaying hulk I was imagining by reading this thread. Looks like a very nice boat and in reasonable condition - as far as one can tell from the photos.

I think we were in cradle next to Kia last year, as you say such a shame as a few thousand would have brought her back into service. I guess more boats to follow that route, some inherited by children who have no interest, won't pay for storage and can't even be bothered to sell or give away.

I've always wondered where they go. I'd love to wander around a boat scrap yard looking for useful bits.
Some years back in Southampton was Belsize boat yard.. was a boat scrap yard with many boats to wander around. Could spend a whole afternoon wandering around
