No, I wasn't seeing things last evening (Thursday) after we had anchored off Hurst.. the Wightlink ferry charging in through Hurst narrows with the flood tide..

Had it somehow got lost in fog?

Wight Sky. Shown on Marine traffic as having come from Portland. Now in Southampton.
