Can't think why you'd need a diamond disc to cut grp, but have you tried the tool hire shops? Hire Station, HSS or Speedy come to mind, they all stock them to buy or rent. Bound to be one of them in your area and if you only need it for a day or weekend may work out cheaper to hire.

Cor blimey John! What you up to? Ordinary 10-a-penny carborundum discs cut through GRP like the proverbial hot knife, so what task are you doing on the Aloooshun that needs diamond? Just curious.

Well thought i'd keep quiete on this one. But would have thougt most disks would have made a hell of a mess of fiberglass. We only have problems with steel or rock. A nd even then theres an answer from the local hire shop.

Well, the factory forgot to put a portlight in that was on the spec. but they managed to have it as standard on boats after mine. The engineer is coming out with me to Palma next week to fix that and do some other warranty work and he asked me to get him one of these cutters but they seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth. We need to use an angle grinder to be able to cut closer to a corner than a jigsaw will allow. The thin blade reduces the amount of crud in the air and it is flexible enough to start a curve. I think I will give up the search and just try some of the steel disks Iain mentioned.
And why do I need another portlight? It'is to supply air and light to the driver chappie when he is in his pit down the blunt end and to let him look up the legs of guests sitting on the aft deck (I fear that I am treating the guy far too well - how often does TCM whip his driver?)

John Why not use a tile cutting jigsaw blade for most of the work and if you send me a PM with an address I will stick the two blades I bought in an envelope. They were not expensive.

Aha! I was going to say in my post, facetiously, "are you cutting an extra porthole", and now it seems you are!

You are being far too kind to driver imho. Just buy him a torch or bag of tea candles. He doen't need natural light.

Good luck with it

Have tried these disks in Spain and they are brilliant. Went through 1 1/2" shaft in under a minute, and still more than half the blade left...not bad for 90p. HOWEVER, don't go near anything but stainless withem as they just vanish...used masking tape as a guide line once, touched it with the blade and the disk just went. Alson cutting through some S S tube no problem until came across some mild steel conduit inside the tube..again the blade just went.

I use stainless cutting disks a lot as I have just finished all the stainless work on a raggie I am building. Normally they are 2.5mm thick, which I find quite adequate. I have just bought those ones at 1mm thick but didn't know how good they will be. Pleased at what you are saying Phil.
Still got the spare tiller fittings to make.
