Anyone with experience on how much water should spurt out of the tell tale hole on a Suzuki DF6? A stream? Spurts or just a dribble?

I have just been through this a month ago. It should be a continous stream, if not, check the impellor. The one I looked at seemed servicable, with only a little nick where the lobes passed over the output hole. A new one cured the problem. If older, might be best to get the kit, which includes the gasket and s.s. plate that the impellor bears on.

Oh Dear, it just came back from servicing and only dribbles. Seems not to overheat though.
They told me to poke around in the tell tale hole. Not very reassuring :-(

The tell-tale hole can salt up. I had the same on an old mariner 9.9 - took it to the chap who serviced it - a bit of a rodding & all was hunky-dory again.

I think it's only a small proportion of the cooling water that comes out of the telltale so if it gets bunged up it doesn't necessarily mean the pump's not working.

I live at the top of a very muddy creek so need to keep a bit of stiff wire for poking out the little hole. Works every time.

If it only just came back from service, have a sharp talk with the outfit. This one had suffered some overheating, but luckely not too much. It easy to check, just undo the two nuts at the cavitation plate, drop the lower unit, undo the 4 6mm bolts that hold the pump body and give the impellor a shuffty. The stream comes out of a plastic nut that I assume doubles as a flushing point. There is another hole in the leg that serves as an exhaust back pressure relief and may spew water and fumes.
Hope this helps.

Check that the pee-hole itself is not blocked by all means but if it has come back from servicing not peeing properly take it straight back.
Don't mess about trying to check the pump yourself .. you should not have to.
