Hi!

We are a group of masters students in Germany who are working on a new hydrofoil yacht concept for our thesis. Hydrofoils are growing in interest and it's only a matter of time before we see more hydrofoil boats and yachts hit the market.

It would be really interesting to discover problems with current yachts in the market, as well as get an idea what people are looking for in a new yacht. If you'd like to help us out by filling in our survey, we would really appreciate it!

The link to the survey is here (all questions are optional) :
TUM : Sport Yacht Survey

Thank you!
Hannah, Bhanu, Suraj, Ruchi and Syed.

That's impressive amateur stuff though imagine a very good engineering background LOL. Wonder how far he took it as a custom option

Can you tell us more about your hydrofoil yacht concept please?

Is she similar to this one?
LOOKER 450S

We were thinking something like the Candela C-8 or Edorado S8 that fully comes out of the water, with two sets of foils (one at the front and one at the back). We actually were initially considered a flybridge, but we were told it would be costly and quite an ambitious project!

There was a guy that built a Bayliner into a hydrofoil think it was somewhere in Scandinavia, there are details on youtube about it.
Quick search...
Wow that's really cool, we haven't come across that yet. We had been considering developing hydrofoils that could be attached onto existing boats, but we weren't sure this would be practical. Really cool to know that it's been done, thanks for sharing!

One of the issues with motor boats and fixed foils is when the boat slows the foils go under water and become a bit of hazard to navigation if they extend beyond the limits of the hull, create issues coming alongside and most marina berths are based on fingers that just clear the average hull -so hyrdofoils need a double berth hence increased mooring costs.
