:D ... not a surprise as done that before.... , but is a good way to observe lube get up to the cylinder head and circulating down the way (no blockages) during cranking .... before allowing her to fire....

Think according to plan is not quite true.... but happy irrespective :)

And just to confirm my comment.... cooling water loss and oil going grey during idle set meant that despite running smooth, I had a dis-lodged water jacket seal on my hands... (there are two per cylinder)... so nothing left but to dismantle and lift head again... + replace all seals. This time sliding head up on 8 rods to keep angle, block up head to secure, replace seals and lower head again..... all went well, torqued up Tec., until exhaust manifold was lowered and hand got trapped... now waiting for an operation tomorrow to repair damaged tendon.... and sewn up properly... before finishing up... :(

Ouch! Bad luck Alf. That will take a while to heal unfortunately.

Does that mean an end to the season for you?
 
Ouch; you'd been doing so well too Alf. On the glass half full side, that will heal up with a bit of time. You don't need me to tell you it could have been a lot worse!

that's the bits I don't like out of rebuilts/restores etc...
I hope you'll find someone to help put the engine back together so you can enjoy some relaxing cruising whilst tendon mends itself (I guess it's going to be slow :( )

Alf, commiserations, you have worked so bloody hard on getting your engines in fine order again, but they are big heavy lumps and it just goes to show how careful you need to be.. I am sure once hand mended you will be back on the case and certainly be enjoying some cruising sooner rather than later!

I also suffered a couple of broken ribs on MiToS, slipping on ICE and hitting the edge of the sundeck in Feb 2012. Wasn't actually working on that day though, just visiting to see that everything was fine after the night's snowfall :(
2-3 months to full recovery :(

My constant worry is falling over the deck (no stanchions/railings for another 3weeks)

Recovery

Having sort of recovered (still some restrictions and tenderness) from OP, exercises, inspection etc., we visited the boat this week-end and intended to start putting stuff together again.

So....

Exhaust manifold installed
Water Jacket manifold installed
Cooling hoses, pipes etc., installed and leak tested
Turbocharger installed
Governor installed
Oil drained and filters removed

Next week-end should see fuel rack, controls, and lube system commissioned and if I'm lucky I'll get to check valves, injectors etc., and start-up....

That injury totally messed up our boating season... but hey hoo, lessons learned etc., and next time I lift heavy stuff, I'll wear some strong gloves just in case... Back to normal service again as typing with the bandage in the picture was a bit of a pain :)
 
Hi Alf

Set your computer up for speech to text and you can speak to it instead of typing, all you need is a microphone and it types as you speak.
