Whats yours.

When I use the shower the shower hose catches the taps and increases the heat, also in the galley, if you open a cupboard above the taps, the door pushes the tap to off. Taps should not have been the up and down, left to right type, but are loverly design

How about the genius who made sure that the engine inspection hatch cannot be opened when the patio doors are secured in the position that you normally use patio doors when on boat.ie Open.Have to go through complicated concertina shutting operation to do anything engine wise..

Putting the engine water inlet seacocks in almost inaccesible places; similarly the trim trab fluid reservoir; making wires too short, e.g. back of ign switches.

Not being able to open the cockpit fridge without moving the vinyl seat cushions on the cockpit seats!

Cupboard catches that don't catch!

Waste tank switch is at the bottom of the electrical panel. Panel is mounted in cupboard. So far so good however, we were warned by an engineer that ...
door is open
switch is near floor
someone stands too close
seacock closed
outlet pipe splits
big clean up in bilges

We have fitted cover over switch.

fluid dynamics

That's a bit old wives tale from your engineer. The pressure in the outlet pipe when the pump runs is pretty much the same whether the seacock is open or shut.

If this is confined to boats then "windscreens" that deflect the wind straight into your face.Bilge pumps that leave 6 inches of water in the bilge. Fuel tank inspection covers that need half the cockpit cutting out so you can get to them. Fuel tank senders that register empty when your under way. And a host of other things I can't be bothered to type about!

Re: fluid dynamics

Maybe so, however decided not to take the chance.
He actually said "that if the waste pump switch is activated when the seacock is closed, then the outlet pipe between the tank and the seacock WILL split and discharge the waste into the bilges".

Re: fluid dynamics

OK, but he is utterly utterly wrong. It's no big deal, but he just doesn't understand what he's talking about. Try it and see. I'll come and clean your bilges if I'm wrong :)

The way that boats of whatever kind are always designed just that bit too small, so no matter what size you have you soon find that you always want something bigger.

Fully agree !

Every boat got one or many, I have areas that water will just stand in after rain ! Hatches that catch little fingers and a fridge taht is always empty of cold beers allthough I filled it the night before?

Exhaust design that permit diesel smoke to destroy the cockpit of practically all fly bridge boats. Why not a stylish high smoke stack on the fly?

Water leak through front opening window no matter what you do to stop it.
Fly screen on mid ship hatch that gets kicked off every day.
Wiper that clears a full 6" of screen, loads of use Not.
Have to stand on seat to get onto step to access bow through front window.
Main one however is.
Boat is not in the South of France. Now that really annoys me.

I have a 1990 2655 and have a couple of the same problems as you but have managed to fix them.

Regarding getting through the bow windscreen, I have fitted a mast step (something for the yotties I think) to the wall on the left hand side of the stairwell into the cabin, which I now use to climb up and it seems to work well. Can't remember who makes them but they have ads for it in (1/4 page colour) PBO and a couple of other mags I think. I can send you a photo if you like. They're about £12 and fold flat when not in use.

As for the forward hatch, mine used to leak too, but have managed to control it by pouring a couple of doses of Creeping Crack cure around the sealant that holds the glass in. Only seem to need to do once a season and has so far stopped the leaks.

Hope this helps,

Bill

My particular favourite at the moment is a galley fridge that opens astern which means that any time anyone opens it whilst the boat is planing the fridge deposits all its contents on the floor

Re: fluid dynamics

I have proved your theory beyond doubt. On a recent 4hr trip I asked my son to empty the holding tank on leaving the harbour. He didnt open the seacock and then forgot to switch the pump off so it pumped happily for 4hrs against a closed seacock without mishap other than a clip round the ear for said offspring

Re: fluid dynamics

OK, so now go and check where the macerator is wrt the tank - ours was mounted about 10" above, contrary to the instructions with the pump, and it refused to prime, ran dry and burned out. When the warning light also failed, we didn't know the tank had filled up until pumping the handle on the bog sprayed the contents out of the vent pipe all over the side of Alastair's boat in Dartmouth (we were rafted up). It was OK, though, as they weren't aboard at the time, and don't know anything about it.
