Depth sounder struggling

Personally, once I am over the 10 meter contour I really don't care what the depth is.
Old guys like me still regard the echo sounder as another source of position information, particularly in poor visibility and when there's enough variation in bottom contours so the soundings give meaningful clues.

But only useful if there's useful sea-bed topography; if the sea-bed is fairly flat, it doesn't help much. And, of course, if the sea-bed is below the range of your echo-sounder - not likely where I currently sail, but a factor when I sailed on the Clyde!

if its a DST there must be temp floating in the bus. What devices have you got in your NMEA2000 bus? Any 4in small display could be configured to show that, same with plotters I'd have thought. You may have to go through your manual to configure a screen to show it.
