Depth sounder for a dinghy?

The Fish Finder I have does show shallow water ... shallow enough to save a dagger board ...

Specs say 0.7m to 100m ... but it actually shows less than that on mine ... about 0.5m .....

I had an old Seafarer sounder before it ... but sadly that got lost over time ...

I use mine not only for fishing - but also to monitor my channel depth as it silts up.

The cheap battery powered units all seem to be designed for fishing, not for use on a moving boat. Most seem to have a floating transducer.

Can't seem to find the combination of transom mounted transducer and battery power...

Make a bracket. Why not try the transducer in a bit of plastic pipe with some suitable oil or gel on the bottom of your dinghy?
Should be OK through wood.

If you look at the picture ... you see two vertical lugs on the transducer - those fit a purpose designed mount that can be screwed or glued to transom. A bolt with thumb screw holds the two together.

The float ring can be removed easily.

Moving or stationary - it works fine as the transducer is basically same as any other - just maybe lower powered.

I had an early portable one I would think that if the fiber glass is thin mounting in the dinghy with some Vaseline to let sound waves pass should do the job. If it’s plywood it might be worth a try,
