I want to check and existing transducer against an old "flashing" Echopilot Incastec sounder (bit like the old Seafarer).

The original moulded male plug has been cut off the wire and I am told that it is a simple coaxial male like the sockets on your average TV aerial. Physically the fit looks fine, before I try it on the boat :-

Can anyone confirm this, have you done similar? Did it work?

Thanks.

Correct .....

The only item to be careful about .... its ok to shorten cable a few cms to allow a new plug to be fitted - but not more than necessary. The length of cable is part of the 'timing' to determine depth. The Head times the pulse OUT and back again to calculate depth.

Good stuff. Another question.

It works off batteries. Should I want to power it from 12 v in: It has a round socket about 10/12mm dia. The central, large, pin is rectangular with a smaller round pin above. Could be a bespoke item, anyone recognise it or even have one of these female plugs going spare?

Can I expect the large pin to be positive? I am not sure how the thing would react to reverse polarity.

That will be a DIN speaker plug

DIN plug Round pin is probably positive but I will have a look in my box of old sounders and see if I can confirm.

Yep - thats it !!
Any home electrical / music shop should have them ....

Its funny actually ... I wish I could find my old Seafarer ..... its buried somewhere in a box in the barn ...

I can't see much about them either but I have found these photos:

Just a bit of feedback. An ordinary co-ax plug of Pound Shop quality did the job and the thing is working fine. As my usual sounder continues to play up, it will be very useful. (y)
