I defouled most of my boat this morning with scuba-gear. An hours work has saved me lifting out this year! However, one area that I couldn't clear was the propshaft and prop which were heavily encrusted. Even with the boat out of the water this area was not easy to clean last year as the fouling did not budge with a pressure washer and I ended up using power tools and various abrasive heads.

The ideal tool for the propshat would I thing be a curved and relatively wide wire brush, preferably with short and stiff wires. For the prop itself, a sort of dish-scrubbing brush, again with short and stiff wires. Are brushes like this available from anywhere? How do others clean the prop and propshat (in water or out).

Use wire wool or a scouring pad, have also used a wet and dry sponge block. Do it regularly and it's all pretty easy.

I may need to change my prop. It's right hand and I need a left hand. However, can you bring your scuba gear and measure mine for me please. Waters too bl***dy cold for me, even in summer.

I live in Med! Lovely and warm here. I was sailing yesterday on flat blue sea, fifteen knots of wind, blue sky, snow on the Alps in the background, thinking of England (not!)

Thought that might be the case....mind you I live here by accident, but if you stick a pin in the world, the tiny spot (terraced house) I live on surprisingly comes almost top.

Could be worse. I could live in Iceland etc.
