It’s takes around 50 minutes to pass through it. I went through this summer on the way to the estuary but unfortunately the weather turned and we only got as far as Dingle, Knightstown and Cahirciveen. Still a great trip.

How long does it take in each chamber? Much turbulence?
Since about 2010, about 50 mins to get through both. No turbulence at all, your moving vertically so slowly you question if boat is rising or falling at all. In the old days before the interlocked safety systems were added the former lock keeper managed to get me through in 25mins (ie pull the plug), and up in 40mins, but not possible anymore due to interlocking and one gate raised limit. When single handed I used to hover so needed quick ascent to avoid fumes.
