Deck shoes (sort-of-boaty)

This is rather embarassing really; I've bought a new pair of leather, (three pairs of holes and laces), deck shoes and I can't for the life of me remember how to knot the bitter ends of the laces to get rid of the excess length without cutting them.
God knows what I'll be like changing the jib on a dark, cold winter's foredeck . . .
Any polite suggestions or pointers, please?

If they're the moccasin type with the laces round the side
1 put the shoes on
2 pull laces to required tautness
3 make 1/2 a reef knot in them
4 take the bitter ends through the relative side loops from shoeside to outside
5 tie them together with a reef bow
6 secure bow loops with a half hitch
7 curse 'cause they're too tight/loose and start again...
Cheers Bob E..

tie laces so you can just slip them on/off without re-tying. apply dollop of glue to each knot.

No, I still want to able to tie them, but simply want to shorten the ends of the laces. There's a way of twirling them up into shorter tidy lengths which I've done on previous pairs but have now forgotten what I did.

When I used to go fishing that was called a half Blood Knot.

I often use them as stopper knots on my Gib Sheets. Of course being a Stinkie you wouldn't understand technical stuff like that!

Look if you're going to be like that. Alright then.

What the hell would you, as a Stinkie Know about Deck Shoes. Shurely they would be called Bridge shoes where you come from. Lets face it you wouldn't demean yourself & walk out onto the Deck would you.

Mind you, what do you wear in the Salon between dealing all those funny Powders & pills.

Sorry, too busy cutting hair to respond at the moment! <sniffing white powder through rolled up £50 notes>

Just poop out on deck and check we haven't run over any raggies while on auto pilot will you? I hate the skid marks on the blue hull when that happens. Damn idiots, they have no idea about colregs, and that autopilot gives right of way!

and pour me another G&T while you're at it

You've confused me now. Let me get this right. You've Pooped on the deck & your worried about skid marks on the (Blue)hull. It ain't the Raggies I would be worrying about.

Now I would have thought your hull would at least be Pink. I mean there's so much thats blue in your life already. All those rinses etc.

You really need to be talking to Pauline about the pink and blue bits! I understand she had them dyed in a Union Jack arrangement

Well, it's really good to know that my post has brought you two turtle doves together again - I obviously have a mission in this Forum !

Than you, too, Brendan for the pic; that's exactly what I was after and I'm very grateful that you took the trouble to go out and down to the Yacht Haven on such an inclement evening to find a raggie in the bar who was obviously so pissed he couldn't tie his laces up !!

I spent the evening, much to the incredulity (I daren't say amusement) of SWMBO, practicing on various bits of string (unsuccessful) and an old but rather too short leather lace (moderately successful). Having seen the pic., I'm now encouraged to return home and tidy up my attempt before embarking on the real thing!

Thank you again, gentlemen,
Tally-Ahoy !
