The point about deck shoes is that they have a razor pattern sole so hopefully are less slippy and wet and hopefully dont pick up as much grit and scratch your teak and gelcoat.
You can spend from about £30 at shows, to £150 I would think.Chill out, it is just a pair of shoes (and you must have at least ten pairs anyway !)
And they are too cold to wear in winter anyway.

Personally I think the vast majority of so called deck shoes are capr!
They're all of a similar design and IMO aren't fit for purpose.
They take on water so quickly they should have bilge pumps supplied as standard.

I've been wearing a pair of these for the best part of two years and have been very pleased. Seem to be pretty dry and durable...

I would agree that they are better designed than the "normal" deck shoe. The sole is moulded to the upper.

The "normal deck shoe has the upper stitched to the sole and there's no sealing between sole and upper. They leak like a sieve.
Edit: Also on the "normal" deckshoes the insoles fall out after being worn once! ( That's if they haven't fallen out in the shop when you are trying them on)........... they're carp I tell you! Carp!

I'm not sure that deck shoes are supposed to keep the water out. I believe they are supposed to give better grip than normal shoes, and have teak and deck friendly soles, so they do not damage your expensive boat. If you want waterproof, and many raggies do as the boat heels in the wind, then there are wellies with deck soles.

All this self draining and quick drying cobblers is a diversion IMHO, unless of course you're trailer boating and take a swim each time you launch. All you need is something with light coloured soft soles which doesn't leave scuff marks on the gel coat and gouges in your teak. My crocks continue to perform well in this regard, not in this weather though - too many draughty holes in em!

Best deck shoes I've ever had are Teva Pelicans. Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and the pair I have now, which I've worn virtually every day for the last five years are now covered in paint and SWMBO won't let me wear them "in public" anymore. But despite emailing the company and searching/ordering from various shoe shops in UK and US, I can't get a pair. Apparantly they're discontinued but if anyone comes across them, I'll have a couple of pairs in each of their colours in size 11 please

I don't think cruising mobos really test the performance of deck shoes, so wear anything you like that doesn't mark or damage the GRP/teak - bare foot, flip flops, trainers, wellies, or if you've lost all sense of self-worth, wear Crocs .... :D

I have had quayside in the past but last pair are sebago and really fit nice feel and look great, they were around the £100 mark retail but slightly reduced in the chandlery opposite the spinnaker . I the recycle my quayside ones into work shoes so they get trashed with oily bilges etc. I do wonder why deck shoes are the price they are compared to normal daily wear shoes.

Other than of course it's marine related! Yes that old chestnut.
