I want to remove a build-up of paint from the decks of my elderly (1969) Prout GRP catamaran. It has the usual panels of moulded-in diamond-patterned 'non-slip' areas. Has anyone got any good suggestions/personal experience how to go about this? Being a cat, there's quite a lot to do.
The Eastwood Company, which specialises in old car restoration stuff has a product claimed to be "well suited for paint on fibreglass, won't attack surface gelcoats" - any (helpful !) comments? (Costs £16.95 for 1 US gallon of the stuff.)

I was just about to do mine when I saw your post. I was going to use Nitromors paint stripper but think I would prefer the stuff you have mentioned. Could you give more details for contact please. As stripper is about £28/£35 a gall' yours could work out cheaper and won't need a critical watch like the stripper so think it might be a winner.

Nitromors has much the same effect on GRP as it does on paint. With a lot of care in CAN be used, but it only needs to be left minutes too long before its eating into the gelcoat. There are a number of GRP specific paint strippers on the market, and no reason really not to use them.

Thanks 'Oldharry'. Your post sent me searching and I found exactly what you suggested. 'Green' stripper formulated for grp. Can be found at www.bcaviation.co.uk including data and application sheets.

Thanks 'oldharry' - I'll check that out. Have also sent 'althorne' the info for the supplier of the stuff I mentioned. I guess cost effectiveness becomes the issue - as always.
Sorry about the delay in replying, I'm still a bit new on this system, but beginning to appreciate its worth (& the need to follow up more promptly!).

I've e-mailed the details to you, but just in case the info is of interest to others, "The Eastwood Company" are the people to contact (at Yate, near Bristol, postcode BS17 5PB), telephone order no. 0454 329900.
I've got their catalogue no. 41 & the product is no. 4690 at the bottom of page 57 - Paint Stripper, 1 US gal. at £16.95.
I haven't used this myself yet, so can't endorse it, but happy to hear from anyone who gets there first!
