As you may already be aware, I'm about to dive in to repainting my decks. I am using International Perfection (over International InterProtect and Perfection Primer). I am somewhat concerned the result will be too glossy - there is a matting additive that can be used. I figure a very shiny reflective deck sounds like a bad idea.

This is a ballad with the same paint scheme I'm looking at - looks quite glossy!

Do you add matting additive to your deck paint?

edit: The technical docs around the matting additive don't make very good reading!

"Polyurethane Matting Additive will provide a reduced mar-resistant finish and therefore should not be used on walkways
etc.
When used with Perfection, the addition of Matting Additive will reduce opacity, hiding power, of the product, so it is
important that the necessary number of coats of unmatted finish has been applied first.
As with all types of reduced-gloss coatings, the finish will not have the same stay-clean properties as a full-gloss
coating."

Use gloss, its MUCH easier to keep clean.
I used 2 pots of gloss to 1 pot of matt and it looked really dull plus it held all the dirt.

Thanks all, that's decided then. Gloss it is...

... anyone have experience of grey decks? Will it hold more heat and be substantially hotter under foot? Gets pretty sweaty in summer as it is :) (not such a problem for now mind you.....)

White for the shiny bits and grey for the non slip, or white/off white if you are using Kiwigrip - well worth considering given all the effort you are putting into this job!
