Anyone care to suggest a decent pub within a short walk of Southampton Town Quay. My definition of decent is no load music, pub grub (not too fancy) & perhaps one or two real ales.

Thanks in advance.

(I know there's a pub forum, but nobody seems to read it...)

Your only a 5 min walk to Oxford street, where you can choose from cafe, pubs and restaurants. Then it's down to personal taste. Cargo ok, white star poor service, med bar ok, Simons better.

Walk past and you have the 3 pubs at / in Ocean village and more restaurants.

Admiral Lucia Curtis a bit basic and chain pub. Slug and lettuce and pitcher and piano same. Bar at banana wharf ok but it's food is in the Resturant.

Keep walking and you get to Royal Southampton, visiting yachts people welcome. Bar food is good and it does a decent pint of doombar.

Catch the Hythe Ferry & visit several!

I have been to the platform Tavern a couple of times but avoided eating there.

(I am not in to live music. For some reason everywhere seems to insist on deafening volumes.)

It's not one of my regular haunts, I'm usually at the other end of town. But I have been there several times over the years and always thought it seemed a nice place. I know they do live music of varying kinds (also an event where you bring your own 70s records to play and get to feed pies to a dog, apparently) but I've always happened to miss it. I've eaten there once on the way to the Boat Show and don't remember being disappointed. Wasn't aware of the rating you link to, but I can't say "Generally Satisfactory" bothers me over-much.
