I just looked up electric foilers. What is interesting is that this person was trying to do it legally, with a licence, RYA qualified leader and presumably insurance but has been denied, but people could hire out jet skis away from the water without control?
There may be an argument to allow licenced jet skis but off the beach in a set area away from main swimming areas, so controlled - not in the river
Maybe a designated section or sections of beach for all the wizzy sports - jet ski's, kitesurfers, wingfoilers, electric foilers
£175 for 90 mins - were there many takers?
Terrible News. The water is there for all to enjoy.good![]()
Utter nonsense of course. It is one of those meaningless phrases hauled out by those who care nothing about other people’s need for peaceful recreation or the preservation of the environment.Terrible News. The water is there for all to enjoy.
I totally agree regarding enjoyment for all. However, I don’t think the presence of any number of yachts, walkers, bird watchers, canoeists, anglers, picnickers, swimmers, or the very wildlife most of them go there to see and hear would spoil that enjoyment for a jet skier. On the contrary - they generally seem to prefer an audience. The reverse is quite different of course, hence my own feelings on the matter - just one jet ski in an otherwise peaceful area of outstanding natural beauty will destroy that enjoyment for all others.Terrible News. You have just described yourself there. Very well done as alwaysUtter nonsense of course. It is one of those meaningless phrases hauled out by those who care nothing about other people’s need for peaceful recreation or the preservation of the environment.
You make many assumptions about what others enjoy. Perhaps have a little rethinkI totally agree regarding enjoyment for all. It would be rather like having a designated track for scramble bikes in Rendlesham Forest - something nobody other than some scramblers themselves would consider appropriate.
Incidentally, I personally witnessed these very people blasting around in circles last summer, just downriver from The Rocks, in a speed-restricted area, close to several anchored yachts at Hemley.
It’s incredible that even supposed pwc professionals, hoping to gain acceptance, and whilst actually supervising novices, are simply incapable of behaving in a sociable or responsible manner.
I think the existing speed limits on the Deben are reasonable but I have not seen any evidence of them being enforced.Paddleboards!
- Edit - I was first thinking of rowing boats being like at Thorpeness but rowing skiffs or coastal rowing boats could be attractive - maybe there should be an 8 knot speed limit on the whole of the Deben now, with power boats being encouraged to go out to sea
I am grateful for the compliment. Perhaps it is just the way I’ve been brought up, but I would rather be thought of as someone who respects others’ needs for privacy and quiet and with due regard for the natural world than someone who sees the world as their personal playground and to hell with everyone and everything else. You have just described yourself there. Very well done as always
Sadly true. And don’t these people know it!I think the existing speed limits on the Deben are reasonable but I have not seen any evidence of them being enforced.
Over the past eleven years (I retired this year) I have travelled up and down the Deben approximately three and a half thousand times. You make many assumptions about what others enjoy. Perhaps have a little rethink
Are you being serious ?Paddleboards!
