Deben entrance - caution

Facinating stuff but back to the subject.
I came out today on the back transit of Mid Knoll in line with the Martello nearest the sailing club as recommended by John White and found much more depth. Brings you out well east, probably 300m, of West Knoll buoy
Surprised you were that far off the buoyed line, there's not much difference on the chartlet, and I did the same as you the other day (about top of the tide) having just had the natter with John White that initiated this thread, and found little difference of line. Perhaps that buoy has a looong chain!
On the other hand, perhaps the buoy might be off station a tad. I'll have a word with John and see what he thinks.

That's interesting. It's exactly as the chartlet shows, except the West Knoll appears to be on that transit. Has it moved?
I suspect instinct would make me err towards the West at Mid Knoll, perhaps that's why many boats are stuffing up this year.

I have spoken with John White today, and he has confirmed to me that the West Knoll buoy is indeed still on station as charted.
So I don't understand Hadenough's experience. Anyway, the advice stands, use the northern-most Martello in transit with the Mid-Knoll buoy.
