Went over the bar on saturday at LW neaps - reckoned I would just get over - but it shallowed to 1.4/1.5m about 50 metres beyond the red bouy and I did some very gentle keel scraping until I was clear. Looks like the bouy should be moved, has any one else experienced this?

You're right IMO - there was a thread on this recently from Mirelle

I reckon the shoal has moved out by around 60' beyond the port can based on this Sunday's experience and it deepens much more gradually towards the Haven mark than it used to.

In addition I think that the shoal S of the port can has built up, based on evidence of someone sat firmly on it a couple of weeks ago. No short cuts across there any more.

I was a bit preoccupied at the time, but what looked v much like Tom Cunliffe's 'Westernman' passed us heading out just after we entered - grand looking boat.

Curse of GPS?

In the old days, John White would have shifted the buoy and that would have been that.

Nowadays we have GPS co-ordinates for each of the bar buoys so a new sketch chart etc would be needed otherwise some clot will pile up, looking for where the buoy used to be.
