Deben Bar at Low Water 14th December 2021

We recently bought a new to us small motor Home to hopefully tow our smaller boats to various locations.

Our first very modest trip out was to Felixstowe in Suffolk. I had promised on here that when I got a chance I would make a drone video of how the Rive Deben Bar is this winter. Today the tides were right so off we went and did the Video.

You will see that the green buoy is very close indeed to the sand spit and actually behind it a little.

Thanks for the video. Looks like west Knoll PHB has been removed for winter?

The video shows the risk of hanging a left at Mid Knoll, which I have seen a few people do over the last season. Mid Knoll also now appears to be too far from the beach, with the growth of the bar towards Harwich.

I've been visiting this river 2 or 3 times a year since the 1970s. It seems like the changes to the entrance are cyclical. The spit from Bawdsey extends in a Southerly direction for a few years, then there is a breakthrough and the process starts again.
I have an East Coast Rivers from 1954 showing metes outside the Victoria pub and a starboard hand bar buoy very close to Bawdsey. In the 80s the entrance was nearly down by Felixestowe.

Yesterday, 45 minutes after low water. The buoy is about 6 feet from the bar

So at high water when you cant see the bar, the chain should have been taken up and all should be good

Much like the dog leg buoys in Walton Backwaters entrance.

Out of interest the video below was taken in November 2020 about a year before mine was filmed in the Original Post to this thread. Interesting how the sand is different

It would be useful if somebody could run a drone over the entrance to the Walton Channel (Stone Point) at low springs.

Following on from the recent dumping of spoil in the area, it appears that the mud off the sunk barges is extending into the channel.

awesome new drone vid..I am intending to go out there with my drone at somepoint as well... ohh and btw the green bouy when tides in is ok..I havent grounded 2 days ago when i came in .. by lodders cut is diffrent story the green bouy there is right by a shallow bit
