Deben and Ore Entrance Chartlets 2014

Many thanks, Cantata, just in time for the club cruise to the Tidemill / Ramsholt this weekend - 20 boats and 44 crew. You've beaten Deben Estuary Pilot to it, although they are promising to have a chartlet up by Easter.

Not a question of 'beating Deben Estuary Pilot', it's not a competition! Our good friend John White last year did his own one-man survey from which his chartlet was drawn, perhaps he plans to do that again. The one on our website is the annual Trinity House all-bells-and-whistles survey

As mentioned in the other thread about the video of the Deben entrance, we noticed some possible buoy position discrepancies. Following confirmation from Trinity House, Imray has very slightly altered the charted positions of the Mid and West Knoll. If you have downloaded and printed the original Imray chartlet, I wouldn't worry as the changes are so slight, but note that where the suggested transit from West to Mid Knoll was on the Martello Tower in 2013, it is now slightly left of it as the maker of that video suggested.

It needs another buoy to mark the safe point off the shingle (to port on the way out). It's a long way between the green and the red and easy to drift off the transit in a strong tide. What about a fund to pay for it supported by the Deben businesses that will benefit, such as the Walton Channel buoys?

Bring back the "Meets" i say

What, the old chartlet that Chris Woods used to do, you mean? Of the two current ones, John White's is drawn by his son from John's own soundings, the one on the ECP site is drawn by Imrays from the full Trinity House survey.

It was up by Easter. I sailed into Felixstowe Ferry on Good Friday evening and it was not there, but when I left on Saturday, it had been updated! As a visitor to the area, I found john White to be really helpful.

Next time I come back, I'm doing the Ore....
