Debbage Marina

I’ve kept my boat there for the last six years. It’s a wonderful place, and that rarest of things in the world of recreational boating: a family run business that is not trying to wring every last penny out of their clients. Easy enough for people like me with smaller boats to relocate, but for the houseboats it’s going to be a nightmare. There’s a meeting tonight to discuss ways forward, but I’m not sure what can be done really.

Perhaps we could write and petition ABP? Let us know if that might help.

It does seem rather heavy handed timewise.
Do you think that it is standing in the way of an ABP expansion ?

I don’t know really. They’ve just done loads of redevelopment next door at Beacon marina (formerly Haven), and I get the impression that they have not made themselves overly popular in the process.
My gut feeling is that they will not redevelop that area - New Cut not being the most attractive of riverside locations. I think for some reason they just weren’t happy any more with having live-aboards down there, though quite why after 30 years of seeming to be fine with it is anyone’s guess. I’m hugely biased obviously, but it’s a lovely community. Never a hint of trouble, no rubbish anywhere, and the marina owners really are loved by everyone down there.

They are a great family the Nixons, the collected our first boat from cornwall on their transport and done our mast lifts for ages, great wealth of knowledge with the personal touch. End of an era for the river.

Plans drawn up and shown some time ago show waterfront residential properties along the island site, overlooking the cut.

100% agree with the popularity of the owners, i've been in there a few times for work, nice people and the marina always looks tidy.

We've lived here for 10 plus years now, its our home and community people cant just move we have nowhere to go and some here cant move. We have people with physical disabilities and mental health issues myself included and moving is definitely not straight forward. The Nixon family are our friends not just the owners we have a social life that we are all part of.
People have lived here going back decades, the business has been here 50 plus years, with the Nixon family for over 30 years its history being lost for what greed?
