A few days ago my Hudl 2 died. It will not turn on and the charge LED does not light when plugged in. I've changed the USB board and fitted a new battery but there is no change. Has anyone got any other ideas?

I don't know the answer, but if you Google for "hudl2 hard reset" there's lots of answers. It seems a fairly common problem.
Yes, I've gone through all of those and it's still dead. They all require it to spark up and run before you can reset it. Mine won't do that.

Mine died about 6 months ago. It wouldn't charge at all. I took it back to Tescos, they told me they no longer stocked or supported them due to many defects. They gave me a full credit and I got a Samsung tab E. Very pleased.

Presumably you've tried the Tesco support suggestion for a completely dead Hudl:-
Plug in, -> power + vol. up buttons for 15 secs, -> release both, -> power button only for 15 secs.
That should (might! ) show red light.
Best of luck.

Unfortunately, yes, I've tried that.
I think it's now time to turn this into a "which is the best 8inch tablet" thread!!

A good friend has just received his third replacement iPad since Christmas! Only good news is that his wife found he had lost pictures of their holiday cruise and is not talking to him. I won't be going down that route!

Why would you? An iPad Air at £436 for form over function?

I agree. The trouble is many Android tablet buyers go to the opposite extreme, buying on price alone and thinking they're getting a bargain.

A Samsung tablet is a bargain, compared to an iPad, but it doesn't fit the criteria for the cheapskates.

Everyone was going on a while back that the Hudl was a bargain, now they all seem to be packing up. Perhaps "bargain" isn't a good criteria for a tablet and like everything else, you just get what you pay for...

I've had that.
Came back on, after fiddling with the on button & the charging lead whilst plugged in.
You say you changed the battery, so may have messed up the charging port & battery still dead.
Ring Tesco helpline, they are sending me a £50 voucher, in lieu of out of warranty repair.
May put it toward a Galaxy Tab A 10.1, which seems to have a better spec than the 9.7 Tab A, for only £20 more.

I went through this a few months ago and was advised to get a Samsung tab E. I followed the advice and am very pleased with it. Things change rapidly in tablet land though so there may be better ones available now.

The issue with Android devices for me is the hardware compatibility bit. Manufacturers respond with varying speed to the Google releases of Android, and that at some point (within a short time some times) will get cut adrift, and as the apps get updated, you'll find your killer app no longer works. Mind you, at least you get a bit more warning than with Apple..

Argos are still selling 10" Lenovo tablets from £84.95. The cheapest ones are running Android 4.2 but for just over £100 you can get 5.0. I have one on the boat and whilst it might not be the fastest in the World, it's perfectly usable and i'd say a bargain. Add the Marine Navigator app and VMH charts and it's a cheap 10" chart plotter.
