Dawn ll. needs to be saved on ebay.

Just the ticket for someone who likes carpentry and isn't too fussed about sailing.
Doesn't that describe anyone who has a wooden boat :)

If I had a conveniently located barn in my back garden - or if I could even get her into my back garden - I would love to do take it on and I would get a lot of satisfaction from doing so.

Unfortunately once I had done so I would get a boat that is too small for easy use (mind you by the time I finished I probably wouldn't have to worry about the boys, they would have kids of their own by that time :) )

Well I hope the seller can wriggle out out that one.
I think I would be saying sorry mate but she not going for a £10er.
More to the point has a seller an obligation to sell for a ridiculously low winning bid.
Why didn't the seller start it an opening bid he would let her go for or put in a reserve.

I think the seller realises that there is virtually no value in the hull because even the most conservative estimate of the cost to completion is vastly more than a fair value for the completed boat. Unfortunately the scrap value is somewhat higher - I really hope that doesn't happen

Can anyone on here give a more informed estimate of the cost to completion than my wild guess of £50-100K

Understandably, but the contract with eBay requires him to supply the goods at the price bid - unless he wants to be drummed out of the regiment.

He would just get one strike against him. You need quite a few to be thrown out. Ten quid may, sadly, be quite an accurate market value for a bare wooden hull requiring extensive repair.

Well it seems the seller has been in touch with the winning bider who put a somewhat larger amount on and he is quite genuine that he wants to restore her.
There is the possibility of forming a partnership.
when I hear more I will post.
I just want the boat to survive G.U.Laws designed some excellent yachts, The first 6mtr Olympic winner Dormy in 1908 and possible the most well known is Chitterbob IV a 1913 ECOD still wining races around the east coast to day.
