Have you had the misfortune to loose something to Davy Jones locker? Did you get it back?
Whilst doing my day skipper some years ago on the Humber I had my son’s best skateboarding hat on, yes it blew off and with text book mob it was retrieved phew!
A few years ago we were going along happily my wife and I in the BVI’s and her brand new thong knickers blew off the guard rail into the briny, actions stations, mob, no good we watched them slowly sink to the mermaid of the deep.
It was the last few days of our jaunt around the South Ionian it was to be the beach barbi get together, filling up with water I turned around and plop went my specs it had to be the dirtiest harbour (Nidri) and am quite blind without them what to do! I made enquires and was told of a dive shop a short walk away, as I am a diver I made my way to the shop, on the way I fell down a hole, got up banged my head on a canopy when I got to the shop it was closed the short walk was a couple of miles.
Finally got back to the boat, just then a huge gin palace turns up fouls the anchors of a couple of boats and drifts towards us. The bronzed Adonis on the bridge dons some scuba gear to cut them self free, quick as a flash I went over the side and swam out to help.
I helped the stricken palace and to show their gratitude they loaned me their gear, unfortunately the air tank was almost empty and had no weight belt, I decided to go down with a spare anchor for weight to keep me down, with a whoosh I went down head first for the bottom, It found me with a bump and a cloud of silt surrounded me, which added to my blindness I couldn’t find my specs except for a plant pot complete with a plant, very strange, taking a final breath I popped to the surface like a cork.
We stayed overnight and missed the barbi with a promise that the lead boat was bringing some scuba gear, getting very ooo’zoed with some friends that stayed behind with us, we decided that an octopus had my specs for his garden in the shade!!!
All’s well that ended well the lead boat arrived, one of the crew with full scuba kit dived the shot line I put down a few minutes later came up with my one and only pair of specs.
