David Parker on Epoxy PBO August. What on earth was THAT?

From my understanding (with the context which preceded this section, talking about syringes and mixing pots), David appears to be talking about dispensing solutions which are not part of the manufacturers supplied kit. He notes that there are 'simple mixing pump solutions' which screw on top of the containers. If it's a 5:1 ration, 5 pumps of resin to 1 pump of hardener. I can't see why the pumps wouldn't be the same size unless someone had deliberately bought pumps of different sizes (which would seem odd).

BTW, the actual quote is 'so if it's a 5:1 ratio'. Can't really see how this can be misread. The label next to the picture of pumps with different sizes only asserts that pumps make the process quicker and simpler.

IMHO, JFKAL's criticism is completely unjustified (and would encourage others to read the informative article)

Here's a fine example of the sort of SNAFU that rank bad sub-editing ( i.e. 'we know better than you' ) creates, and to which I refer in #20 above......

This, spotted in this week’s Time Out London by the marvellous @subedited, is our favourite magazine mistake for ages - and an example of what happens when sub editors rigorously stick to style guides suggesting that 10 should be written as ten.

Writing '10' as 'ten' has always been the geeky version of the joke.

West's do sell different size pumps

I have read the second part of the article in the latest PBO this morning. Well written and accurate, with some useful tips. He again makes the point that epoxy mixing ratios vary between manufacturers and that it is necessary to check.

The pumps I have, I think they are WEST, are definitely the same size.
My mate's pumps, which I thought we SP, are not.
Those makes could be v/v.....

The instructions didn't make this clear, so first go I checked by weighing on the digital scales.
Top tip, if using the kitchen scales, put them in a poly bag...

BTW, the small (repair) packs of one make or other mix 2:1, while the big packs are 5:1 IIRc, so take care.
