Data Only PAYG SIM for Greece

We too use an Irish 3 sim - data is limited to 6 GB overseas but if that's enough (and of course you keep your full €20 credit) you can just get 2 or 3 sims from the 3 shop and if after a couple of months (the T&Cs say 2 months abroad - we did get 2 years but I think they're hotter on it now) they shut you down just top up the spare sim and get another 2 months data use.

MEO in Portugal do 30 GB for 30 days PAYG for €20 and don't seem to have any rules on overseas use in the EU so lots of Spaniards use them full time in Spain. Not sure if you're likely to be travelling through Portugal or can order online but it suggests other EU countries are less bothered about roaming use now the new EU law is in so you may not be stuck with just Greek options if the 3 sim doesn't work out.

We were caught out by 3 a few years ago even though we opted to pay full roaming charges at that time, rather than their local UK rates. Once that had happened they disabled roaming even after using the SIM in France, more than a year later, to send a single SMS. That's made us wary of T&Cs for use outside UK in summer. Everyone seems to have tightened up and now make specific reference to extended use outside UK.

You'd probably need to activate multiple SIMs before leaving UK as I'm pretty certain that's in terms & conditions. I think that more companies are stating that you mustn't use the SIM more outside UK than in UK over a certain number of months. You might fall foul of that with multiple SIMs but should get some use out of them. At least one company talks about adding a reasonable penalty charge for extended use in EU as an alternative to turning off roaming. I'd be happy with the latter but don't think it is guaranteed.

I checked Wind and Vodafone today. Wind are full of wind or maybe something more solid. €10 to buy the sim and €10 for 1.2 GB one point two folks in case you miss the dot. Vodafone €6 for the sim and €10 for 5 GB which is valid for 25 days. Will check Cosmote tomorrow.

The situation changed last year with the abolition of data roaming charges in the EU. If you've got a data plan in the UK, you can use that plan in the EU. Any hidden T&C putting time limits on your use within the EU should by now have now been removed.

Cosmote are the same as Wind 10 for the card and 10
for 1.2 GB so Vodafone by a mile. It could all change in a short while so always worth checking again.
