Last season I had a couple of 9” Garmin plotters fitted. Now I’d like to get the dash re modelled to make the helm screen sit nice and flush rather than sticking out on a horrendous boxing. The people I’ve tried either A, don’t bother responding or B, don’t have any clue how to do it and want north of £650 just to veneer the original box.
Does anybody know of a craftsman with enough skill to do a pucka job and not blow my cheque book up ??
I’m In Hampshire.

Sure, bring it round Neil. I can veneer the box for for a bottle or two. You know where I am.

As for dash, why could it not be placed flush in the first instance? Pictures might help here

Well the old geonav was a smaller unit and that was flush. The new plotter is twice the size as the old so it won’t fit flush. Hence I need a whole new dash with a nice shaping and re positioning of the instruments . I’m too ashamed to post pics ?

Is the dash actually big enough to fit everything if gauges are realigned or do you need to change gauge size and / or get combo gauges in order to fit?

Can your MFD interface with the engines to get the required info without some gauges, is that an option.?

Can I ask why you dont just buy a nice sheet of Carbon fibre or acrylic sheet of your choosing, do the cut outs and replace the top of the existing dash with it? It would be a simple enough job unless there is a photo to explain why this couldnt be done? I replaced all my dash panels with grp circuit board with a top veneer. Was a quick job.

I do need an angle on the mfd screen to prevent glare. My skills in this dept are lacking. A straight forward flat panel would be easy enough to do yes, but it’s not that straight forward. Also I’d like one in the right colour to compliment the rest of the boats wood, which I believe is American cherry !

Well look for American cherry crown cut veneer or 3M DI-NOC Light Cherry Woodgrain Vinyl and cover the board.

I’d really like a dash re model, not just coating it.
Any skilled people out there that can do it please ?
You could contact @Elessar for a recommendation, I know he had new flybridge dash panels moulded in situ and made up for his boat, done by a GRP guy in Southampton IIRC. This was to take a plotter etc where none would fit. I've seen the finished result and you'd not know it's not factory.

Not a great 'after' pic but you get the idea. My left hand.

Wow. Nice job, but Neil is picky, you can empathise, but doesnt want to spend the dosh. So unless your mate's mate will do it for beer and crisps it's not going to get that far.

Well I don't know what Mark paid but I do recall him commenting how reasonable he thought it was. Guesswork alert: A few hundred of our depreciating English squids.

Waynes World (Captain Faffer) Of this parish is good with veneers and carpentry and comes highly recommended on here, maybe worth a chat via pm? No Idea why this was highlighted!

I think that was Wayne of this parish.

a few by definition is not many but more than one while several means three or more. And of course there is a couple so we can discount that. So 150 ish Neil, that's your bargaining piece. I'd haggle myself (y)
