Does anybody know the rates for visitor berthing at this marina. I understand they are a bit scary, but given that that Darthaven do not take bookings, it might be my only option in a couple of weeks time.

It's a lot cheaper on the mid river pontoons as long as you don't require water or electricity. I think it costs us about £17 a night, which is about half the price of the marina. Very good water taxi service, and if you are going into Dartmouth it is cheaper than the ferry which you will need from Darthaven as it is on the other side of the river.

My son's bringing his fiance and he does not want to risk putting her off sailing, so walk ashore, showers and electricity are vital I'm afraid.

Dart Marina is mainly berth-holders only AFAIK. Darthaven will almost certainly be able to accommodate you.

Water taxi is now £1, making the mid-river visitor pontoons very useable. Public showers available in Dartmouth.

You don’t say how long you are, but if 30’ or less you can berth on the Yacht club pontoon (outside DYC on Dartmouth side, which is walk-ashore, showers in DYC).

Or...go upriver to Noss

Or...take a visitors mooring at Dittisham. It’s a delightful place with showers available within a 10min walk. If she doesn’t like it there then she’ll never like being on a boat anywhere.

Enjoy!

I find the telephone quite useful for getting information if a company has failed to understand that potential customers need that information before making purchasing decisions.

You never know she might actually like spending a couple of day "off grid"! Alternatively might be worth suggesting to son that he pays the marina fees in order to appease his fiance!

My chum was rather put off moorings when in the dark in the tender I trod on the racing dinghy self bailer some previous prat had fitted - amongst all the luggage, I didn't know it was there - we only just made it ashore and chum immediately consigned it to a flower bed, booking a marina berth !

That was down to me, I should have spotted what was going on, I'm used to self bailers but not in tenders.

I've not had great fortune in getting a Dittisham mooring - and my boat is about the same length as the OP's. Even at midday, they all seem to be used during the summer months. Might just be my misfortune?

Some times you have to raft up on the moorings, We have been on a raft of three. Or Radio Dartnav and ask if one of the private ones are available.

There’s a long visitors’ pontoon on the Dartmouth side just below the higher ferry. You can go alongside there and dinghy across the 10’ gap to walk ashore.

I have turned up unannounced twice during regatta weeks. Called up DartNav on channel 11 and they always find somewhere for you to stay. Very helpful chaps who almost never turn someone away.Wonderful harbour and great place to be in that particular week,

They are amazing people and generally quite chilled. Well, this is Devon!

For those interested, Dartmouth Marina works out at about £45 a night for a 10 m yacht with harbour dues and electricity. They don't take bookings in advance, but will keep a spot for you if they have one on the day.
