Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my Waeco Danfoss BD35F / VD15 Evaporator.

In short,

I turn on the power to the fridge
Compressor Kicks in
40 Seconds On - then goes off
About 30 minutes later
Compressor kicks in
40 Seconds on - then goes off

And continues like this.

I downloaded some troubleshooting information from Danfoss which I will try. In the meantime however I noticed that my thermostat on the VD-15 Evaporator is jammed. Any idea where I can get a replacement from ?

Any comments help regarding the above would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tyrone

Maybe an undersized current protection thermal device ? When the compressor starts it can easily draw 2-3-4 times the average current it uses 10 minutes later, if the overcurrent protection is set too low that might explain the behaviour

just went through a troubleshooting guide, it might also be the low voltage protection of the controller: in case the voltage drop *at the controller* goes beyond a certain level, the unit shuts itself off.
If you can connect a led between the + terminal of the controller and the "D" stud, one flash every 4 seconds indicate a low voltage error.

A check of battery conditions, wire size, connections etc might be useful

Have the same problem. I suspect a bad high resistance connection in the wiring. If I bypass the existing wiring and go straight to the battery - no problem. Note the inrush current for the compressor is quite high which with a bad (corroded) connection or wiring thats too thin it drags the compressor supply voltage down beyond the cut out voltage.

Had similar problem, could not understand it as power was getting to the compressor. Turned out there was a poor connection in the switch box, cleaned it up and worked fine. Voltmeter did not show this, saved me a lot of expense as I was considering buying a new compressor.
Yours may be different but would check out all connections.

I had this problem. turned out to be the uniquely unavailable four pin plug onto the compressor motor itself. I eventually solved the problem by replacing the control unit, with its supply cable potted into it, with a spare provided by a friend who runs a refrigeration business.

I also understand that over time the cable from the boat's 12v panel to the fridge controller can work harden, increasing resistance. replacing this cable with a thicker one can help.

Mechanical Thermostat

Hi,

After some troubleshooting I found the thermostat was the problem.

I replaced this but am not 100% sure how the sensing tube should be set up inside the Waeco VD-15 evaporator.

Any documentation or guidance appreciated.

Thanks
Tyrone
