DAKA! I need your advice, col regs question

CelebrityScandel

"Cruiser2B - "it states as far to starboard as is SAFE and PRACTICABLE.". I did not say anything different so you and I agree on that. However, your reference to the rule passing port to port does not negate the responsibility under the Narrow Channel rule as you claim it does - I think a little thought would show that if you were correct then the narrow channel rule would have little or no purpose. The adherance to the narrow channel rule is particularly important in marinas as visibility may be obstructed for either oneself or for other boats."

So if you agree with Cruiser2B, then you will be agreeing with me.

"Galadriel - I understand your description of the events very well and everything you keep adding strengthens the clarity of my understanding."

No you dont understand at all!

"You are now even conceding that you drove up the port side of the channel, an action that is not necessary when turning to port into a channel (as you claim it is)"

I DID NOT SAY THAT!! What I said was:

"YES I was on the port side of the channel! I HAD to be for a few seconds as I entered the channel from the PORT SIDE!!!!!!!! I had to cross the port side to get to the Stbd side and we are referring to a channel wide enough, but only just wide enough for two boats to pass" read it properly before you comment!

"except, of course, in the event one incorrectly enters the channel before the way is clear."

If that refers to me, yet again you have not read my post properly!!

"Referring back to your earlier question. No it wasn't us you helped put on the mud."

I 'helped' put no one on the mud, they did that themselves.

"You would have seen us coming for sure and I suspect you would have given us a very wide berth,"

If I knew the name of your boat, sure I would give you a wide berth, no question!!!

"all that assuming that we could fit in your marina and that my boat was currently in the UK, which it is not :)."

Ah! what a relief to know your boat is not in the UK, everyone, breaths a sigh of relief.

"Perhaps you have learnt something out of this but I suspect not so no more to say on the matter."

I have learned NOTHING from you, and am very unlikely to. What I have learned is that my interpretation of the col regs is without a any doubt.

I have learned NOTHING from you, and am very unlikely to.

Yes you have. You have learnt that in a channel the requirement is not just to pass port to port as you stated twice was the case in your first post.

Furthermore your haughty and touchy response to my first post, together with your shouting (all those capital letters??) and fighting in subsequent posts is a dead give away that there is more to your adventure than you have cared to let on about.

Good luck with your sailing.

On the contrary, I think you will find you are the only person who finds anything wrong with the way the situation was dealt with.

Might I suggest that in the future you read posts properly and only reply to what people have actually said. Dont comment if you dont know what you are talking about.

Incidentally I had to shout, that's what you have to do when someone wont listen.

Sounds about right - inexperienced helms cannot be relied upon to turn in the "correct manner" .. so quite likely to go back into Car driving mode - or even think that because you've just come out of the side you'll stay on that side. As for the skipper giving u a mouthful - that's probably to mask his embarassement....

It is abundantly clear from everything I have said that we would be following close to our starboard side of the channel. It is a comfort to know that you would keep to yours, but I take it that you would only be doing so if you knew the name of my boat. Everyone else will have to get out of your way I assume.

It seems Elessar thinks it is foolish to keep to the starboard side of the channel as he thinks my view on doing so is daft.

I am off to catch a plane shortly, so am forced to leave you to the thread. Been interesting though to see the confirmation that some do not know how to behave in channels and certainly goes a long way towards explaining some of the behaviours we have observed in some places of the world.
