Anybody got the later-design D6 exhaust horns, with the integral anode? If so ... any idea on how long the anode lasts? I only ask because I'm sorting out service parts at the moment, but these anodes are a quite chunky £60 each, and I'd rather not bring them into stock if it's likely that I won't need them (my previous un-anoded exhaust horns lasted 11 years, without that much in the way of corrosion...).

2 seasons Jimmy

£17, and there's 8 in each one. Good old Volvo.

Volvo are like Apple, everyone moans at their prices but continues to buy their products, who's the mug? I'm sure there must be alternatives? I'm currently searching for the next boat and taking all this info in, keep up the good work guys.

If you think Volvo parts prices are bad, don't even think about a Yanmar.

It's mostly about volume ... when you churn out 750,000 of one type of car, there are economies of scale which mean we are used to very cheap car parts.
If you make a few thousand engines, those economies aren't in the same league.
At the extreme end ... try getting Trend Marine to make you one new windscreen for your boat, and fall off your chair when they quote £14,000
(no, I haven't mis-typed that, it's £14 grand for a windscreen for a little Sealine S23, as an example)

Depending on your budget and what type of boat you want take this into consideration.

Shaft drive boat, nice alternative is Cummins QSB. Not Pod drives though.

Yanmar, forget it there prices are even worse value for money.

Sterndrives, in my opinion you don't have one.

Look at the Yanmar prices for a Turbo compared with Volvo Penta, looks like Mercedes as opposed to Ford Fiesta parts prices.

Well said, people Moab about Volvo but there's a dealer on every corner on the south coast though I'm surprised how Ireland isn't represented very well, I get loads of offers to go over there.

Don't get me started on Ireland! You'd sort out your retirement fund pretty quickly over here.

People at my local club are constantly asking me to carry out works (I'm a competent DIY'er and happy to work on my own machines, but not others) and we're only a tiny club in the West of Ireland.

I really wonder about 'engineers' knowledge when they ring me!

Still very undecided as decision yet to be made where boat will be based, once I know more I will be asking some questions, quite like the sound of Cummins but was biased towards Volvo as they deem to have the biggest dealer and parts network, I guess that's what you are paying for?

Dealer in every corner, more engineers out there that know the product . You pay for what you get.

We haven't mentioned caterpillar have we, eye watering service costs with mind numbing extras on the bill like van mileage at way above what the AA and RAC advise plus travel time at the full rate for sometime 2 engineers, I know one client of mine that ran up a bill into thousands just for travel time plus the job. There is one UK dealer, Finning that monopoly the CAT uk dealer market. Beware.
