Düsseldorf boat show

Hi all,

Is anyone planning to go to the Düsseldorf boatshow next January.
Has anyone been before, and does anyone know the best reasonably priced hotels in the area.

Thanks

I have been twice, we tend to stay with friends in town, there are lots of hotels in town and link with the tram is very good and easy.
The show is very large and lots of really good places to sit down to eat and drink.

very different to UK shows..

when purchasing a ticket there are so many options like a few days or just a single day, all explained at ticket office or on-line

highly recommend the show!

I will be there so you can all buy me a drink..

Yep, never been before, but planning to go next year.

Having ventured South to Cannes this would seem the next logical step on my journey :)

I'm assuming somewhat smaller boats than Cannes. Having only experienced London as an indoor show just how much larger is it and what will I see that I otherwise wouldn't at Southampton, London, Cannes. Are there any builders I wouldn't have seen before ?

Henry :)

I went a couple of years ago and spent two days at the show and in truth didn't see everything that year Princess launched its 40m at the show, have no idea how they got that inside! Definitely worth a visit and am planning on going again next year.

If you like a beer the town if worth a walk round in the evening!!

its huge !
best watersports show in europe imho.
I Go there every year one or two day's, (only 130km from my home)

choose a hotel in town, @booking.com

Holy mother of big sheds. I didnt realise Princess launched the 40m inside. I knew they had the 30m in the hall a couple of years ago. I'm looking at buying some more industrial sheds for my pension fund at the moment, I suspect that one would be a tad over budget :)

Interestingly I haven't seen anything on my travels to better what's available at Southampton mid 50 foot flybridge wise. I'm cobbling together some ramblings and photos which I'll post up at some point but the boats that grabbed me in Cannes weren't traditional sports flybridge boats.

It does sound like a decent couple of days though.

Agreed. If you go to just one boat show in Europe every year, this is the one. Plus you get to meet some nice forumites that you wouldnt otherwise meet! FYI in the past I have found booking a BA flight+hotel deal cheaper than booking both separately

I've been once and really enjoyed it.
The show is so big you need to allow 2 days to see everything.
Think of it as being like half of the entire NEC in Birmingham.

Best tip I can give you is to go on week days, because at weekends the crowds are so big you can barely move, let alone see anything in some of the more popular halls. Plus there are many more giveaways in the week. They may be there at weekends too but with that volume of people everything runs out of stock very quickly indeed.

We drove over from the Midlands and stayed with friends. An easy journey especially via Harwich overnight, and much less hassle than flying with all its encumbent restrictions, rules, cancelled and delayed flights, etc etc. More flexible too, recommended.

I'll aways have a pragmatic love of London -- not for the boats but for all the great friends I get to meet there every year. I also love Cannes -- 'because its the only show you can do everything in the sun and tests a-plenty and seems now to have become the "Launch Show" for new models ---- of all sizes ... for European builders.

Dusseldorf is however the "best' .. it has so much to offer being inside the major complex and many brands you just don't see in such numbers elsewhere. Size of boats are however limited to about 30m (?) for those with the biggest aspirations.

As I recall there was a significant forum presence last year? -- and they'll be along soon.

It is a 2-day show but avoid weekends -- if you can. Hotels everywhere -- entertainment a-plenty.

Entry is peanuts ( given the cost of getting there) -- and is a big social event too. What more can you ask for in January ?

Just booked flights to go there with a friend on the latter weekend. True, weekends are busy but we had no problems getting to every boat we wanted to see. Still looking for accommodation somewhere close to Altstadt to avoid the extra taxi ride in the evenings.

Last year we did two full days but this year we'll also be going on Sunday as there is just so much to do and see.
