We have just joined the CYC in Brightlingsea as we were looking for a place to drink and eat particulary in the Winter, tried the local pubs but found them a little loud (Must be our age!) We went for the first time last Sunday and also on Thursday. We have been in a lot of clubs over the years travelling with the children to sailing events and found many to be snobbish and members look at you thinking "don't want you in our club".
This was not the case at the CYC, we were made very welcome and felt very much at home, we intend to go down again this Sunday and sample the food, even been told the Rugby will be on in one room (Not sure the wife will like that bit!)
The view over the town hard is lovely, told this to my Mother, down side she now wants to join!

PLUS 1.

We to have always been made welcome at CYC when we have stayed at over in Brightlingsea.
Very nice people i must say.
Nice bar also,,

Several years ago our club was invited to visit the CYC. We had a very pleasant evening, and at the end of the evening the Commodore stood up and said "Next week we are going to have a talk by *****, and I hope everybody will come" - so my daughter and I went. It was the same at the end of that evening "Next week we are having a talk by ***** and I hope everybody will come", and so my daughter and I went. This went on for several weeks until somebody came up to me and said "Are you members?" I said "No I we are not", so he replied this is really for members only - and I pointed out what the Commodore had said every week, and he said "The Commodore only meant members, but you can stay for the rest of this evening"

Has something changed? The food has been always been top draw when I have visited
It has been lots of years since I last ate there and it wasnt good but I understand there have been lots of changes since then. Think I am going to a dinner there at beginning of May.

Keeping the boat in Brightlingsea I have thought about joining but when I looked into it (about 8 years ago) the cruising section was fairly inactive and as I have no interest in racing there seemed no point paying out membership for a burgee when I am a member of a very good nation association.
